English journalist short-story writer poet and novelist Rudyard Kipling's major works include The Jungle Book 1894 Kim 1901 and many short stories and poems. Kipling was born in India which inspired much of his work and his innovative stories for children have become timeless classics. Kipling was one of the most popular writers in the British Empire in both prose and verse in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1907. L. 278pp. A super copy of this scarce first edition with dust wrapper. Numerous illustrations throughout support the text. Gilt embossed lettering and vignette of a dog to the front board and spine. A light bump to the tail of the spine with a couple of tiny niks to the cloth at the tail of the spine. Slight board bowing. Neat ink name and date inscription to the front end paper dated 1934 Suva Fiji. Light toning to the end papers. Clean and tight. Original dust wrapper not price clipped. Significant sunning to the spine of the wrapper and tide mark to the wrapper at the tail of the spine with some light patchy fading to the underlying cloth at the tail of the spine. There is chipping to the wrapper at the head and tail of the spine with loss of 0.3 cm. Tear of 5 cm to the wrapper from the tail of the spine now repaired with acid free archival tape to the rear of the wrapper with a small circular loss of 1 cm along the edge of the tear. A smaller 1 cm tear to the wrapper from the head of the spine. Rubbing to the wrapper over the corners of the boards. A lovely very good copy. Macmillan & Co Limited hardcover
