Heavy cardstock leaves oblong 325 x 250 mm bound with thin blue rope tassled along spine; pp. 54 with text handwritten in black ink in German and English with original illustrations in ink or ink and gouache both in text and full-page. Created from 32 leaves some of them glued together along the edges creating a new page when the author/illustrator wanted to change her lay-out text or illustration -- these have since become detached offering an interesting look at the author's creative process. Binding broken and leaves loose but in excellent condition suitable for display. The artwork is extraordinary -- showing cute little chicks as their adventure takes them from fields full of flowers to lakes brimming with colorful fish. It tells a story of 3 little chicks who find a mysterious blue egg which they are told not to play with but they do and learn some valuable lessons from the consequences. Though little is known about the author she appears in a tiny b/w photograph on the ultimate full-page illustration. More of her unrelated artwork is laid-in at rear including pastels of trees floral arrangements in gouache -- lovely suitable for framing. <br/><br/> paperback books

On pink paper it reads "You might paste this in your copy of Grimhaven-- Mr Eugene Plunkett -- signed Robert Joyce Tasker April 26th -1929- San Quentin Calif." Four newspaper articles about Tasker are pasted in at front with the former owner's explanations and notes written ink next to them. <p>Second printing of the first edition. iv 241 3 pp. Bound in publisher's green cloth with gilt stamping. A Good only copy lacking jacket. Spine worn and frayed along ends glued down to spine offsetting from clippings. Former owner's bookplate on paste down San Francisco bookseller's ticket on rear paste down. <p>A rare fan's copy of a popular memoir of life at San Quentin which the author was able to parlay into a successful screenwriting career. In 1967 he released influential title in the genre of Books on Books THE DESIGN OF BOOKS. Book making perforated the entirety of Wilson's life. With the help and interest of his wife Joyce Lancaster Wilson Wilson invested his attention in studying the entire production process of THE NUREMBERG CHRONICLE the first known book to include a rudimentary map of Europe a plethora of woodcuts and a history of the world beginning at creation. The book that came out of it Wilson's THE MAKING OF THE NUREMBERG CHRONICLE is an astute and thorough study on one of the earliest examples of exemplary book making. Volumes 1-4 are in very good or better condition; Volume 5 in the larger format not issued in a slipcase has a clean and tight interior but a soiled cover with a crease to the lower front corner which has been backed with archival repair tissue on the verso. Slipcases for Vols. 2-4 very good with some rubbing; slipcase for Vol. 1 is lacking head piece. Foolscap octavo. Bound in cream-white boards decoratively stamped in blue with blue satin place-marker issued in a glassine wrapper. A Near Fine volume in a Good original glassine wrapper. Wrapper is age-toned and chipped at head and tail with light tanning to the exposed portion of the spine. This copy belonged to the Arthur Conan Doyle scholar John Bennett Shaw and his bookplate is included but unattached.</p><p>A lovely example of James Joyce's collaboration with the small artisan presses at work in the 1920s and 30s.</p><p>The Black Sun Press was an exemplary Parisian fine press publishing house which brought together a community of diverse artists to produce deluxe hand-set editions capturing the modernist scene in the late twenties and thirties.
