Two smart first editions of these works from English philosopher and author Aldous Huxley. Two volumes. First edition. Written by Aldous Leonard Huxley an English writer and philosopher who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature nine times and was elected Companion of Literature by the Royal Society of Literature. This set contains: Point Counter Point 1928. Huxley's longest novel and notably more complex and serious than his earlier fiction. The novel's title is a reference to the flow of arguments in a debate and a series of these exchanges tell the story. Instead of a single central plot there are a number of interlinked story lines and recurring themes. Rotunda: A Selection from the Works of Aldous Huxley 1932. A collection of the fiction poems drama essays and travel writings of Huxley. With titles including: Uncle Spencer Leda The World of Light Sabbioneta and Meditation on El Greco amongst others. In the original full cloth binding. Externally smart with light wear to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of Rotunda as well as the front joint. Light fading to the spines. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot and minor age toning to the endpapers. Light spotting to the fore-edge of Point Counter Point with a newspaper article pasted to the front free endpaper. The top pages edges are stained brown with the original dust jacket signed 'Bird' 376 pp. Stylistically balancing between non-fiction and fiction this is Huxley's account of a historical event of demonic possession in 1634 of the Ursuline nuns by Urbain Grandier who was then prosecuted by Cardinal Richelieu. The book is in great shape binding and all except for a slight discoloration on the first two front free end papers. The dust jacket as well is in surprisingly good condition with some small areas of darkening at the top and edgewear. A wonderfully maintained book wrapped in mylar rated very good to near fine. <br /> A very nice first edition of Huxley's best novel. Chatto & Windus unknown
