Relativement peu connu du grand public français, Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895) : "naturaliste emblématique de la science victorienne" (Geslot) joua pourtant un rôle essentiel dans la défense et la diffusion de la théorie de l'évolution, ce qui lui valut le surnom de "bouledogue de Darwin".
