The second edition published the same year as the first.Complete in two volumes.Richly illustrated throughout with photogravure frontispieces eighteen colour plates three double-page plates six further photogravure plates and eight folding maps. Collated complete. Volume I comprises the journals of Captain Robert Falcon Scott while Volume II contains the reports of the journeys and the scientific work undertaken by Edward Adrian Wilson and the surviving members of the expedition. Arranged by Leonard Huxley with a preface by Clements Markham.Scott was a Royal Navy officer and polar explorer who led two major Antarctic expeditions: the Discovery expedition 1901-04 and the Terra Nova expedition 1910-13 the latter documented here and culminating in Scott"s death after reaching the South Pole. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. One or two minor handling marks to boards. Spine of volume I faded and rubbed towards rear joint. Internally firmly bound. Hinges slightly cracked in places but firm. Collected Short Stories 1957. A Collection of twenty-one short stories including: Happily Ever After The Tilloston Banquet and Hubert and Minnie. Island 1962. A utopian manifesto and novel which although it has a plot largely serves to further conceptual explorations rather than setting up and resolving conventional narrative tension. It is the account of Will Farnaby a cynical journalist who is shipwrecked on the fictional island of Pala. In the original full cloth binding. Externally very smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrappers are also smart with light wear and minor chipping to the panel edges. Minor loss to the head and tail of the spine of Ape and Essence with sympathetic repairs made with tape to the internal side. Light sunning to the spines with the odd small mark to the panels. The odd small closed tear to panel edges. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Very Good Chatto & Windus hardcover
