Some foxing to the end pastedowns and page edges. New label on the spine. Bumping to the corners. Some rubbing to the edges. Some browning to the spine. Small scratches to the spine beneath the label. Originally published in 1923 'Antic Hay' is one of his sharpest early comic novels. Set in post-war London it follows Theodore Gumbril a dissatisfied schoolmaster who abandons his job in search of pleasure freedom and identity. Around him moves a cast of cynical artists intellectuals and socialites each reflecting the uncertainty and moral drift of the 1920s. The novel is witty satirical and restless mixing farce with philosophical unease. Its title comes from Marlowe suggesting a wild absurd dance fitting for Huxley's portrait of modern life.
