All have different collations and none name a translator. The Urie edition is rare: ESTC lists seven copies three in North America Toronto North Carolina Huntington Library. . Contemporary speckled calf with red calf spine label. Octavo in fours. Binding extremities lightly worn occasional light marginal dampstaining. Old ink signature on title-page later ink signature and address on front free endpaper bookplate of a third owner on front pastedown. A second-rate satire by Voltaire on the life of Joan of Arc. It is richly illustrated with 21 plates 'in the style of Eisen'. Book catalogue notes tipped into the front state this is 'the rare edition with the 21st Canto omitted from most editions. This issue is famous too for the series of 21 exquisite copper-plate engravings.' Brady could find nothing to substantiate the claim that the 21st Canto was rare. 'First published in 1755 it is a base libel on religion and history.Nevertheless. it is amusing.' Very Good copy. $500 Published by S. l. hardcover

With an engraved portrait and 21 copperplates.xiii 1 223; 4 243 pp. Two volumes bound in half green morocco over marbled boards gilt back with crown and sword in four compartments marbled end papersall edges gilt. Very Good Plus light edge wear extensive light pencil bookseller notations in both French and English verso front marbled end paper giving references for this work. With the armorial bookplates of Victor Duc de Saint-Simon Vermandois second Spanish Duke of Saint-Simon and confirmed as a peer of France by Louis XVIII in 1819 though with the rank of marquis not duke. He served as ambassador first in Lisbon then in Copenhagen before being named Governor-General of the French colonial possessions in India based in Pondichéry in 1834. He did not start using the ducal title until the 1840s. which dates this binding from 1840 to 1865 when he died. A Scarce edition which incorporates the plates of the Didot edition of 1795 but without the frames. Voltaire's notorious bawdy parody of the life of French national heroine Joan of Arc with the risque and erotic illustrations all present. Cohen-Ricci II 1034. Crapelet Hardcover
