La raccolta inizia con 3 lettere del Voltarie; seguono 10 lettere del Bailly su varie questioni: se l'origine delle scienze sia, o meno, da attribuirsi ai popoli orientali quali Caldei, Cinesi, Indiani (essendo il Bailly un astronomo, molte notizie interessano l'astronomia: ad es. a p.26 si legge dell'osservatorio di Pekino), questioni di carattere religioso (la 3° lettera contiene considerazioni sulle religioni cinese e egiziana e a p.64 si parla di trasmigrazione di anime e metempsicosi), questioni di geografia economica (nella 9° lettera, il clima in rapporto alla latitudine e le relative coltivazioni della Terra), etc. Manca a Graesse, Brunet, Olschki.
