Octavo bound in contemporary calf gilt title to the spine raised bands marbled endpapers. In very good condition. Rare. Voltaire composed his Letters Concerning the English Nation based on his experiences living in England between 1726 and 1729. The volume was first published in English in 1733 and then in French the following year where it was seen as an attack on the French system of government and was rapidly suppressed. From a total edition of 220 copies this is one of 170 copies on Rives signed by the artist with an extra suite of the woodcuts on Rives. An interesting production by the artist/designer/typographer. The announcement and Monthly Newsletter are near fine clean without wear with a few shallow creases to the bottom margin of the Newsletter and a small stray mark at the bottom of the announcement. The glassine wrapper is near fine clean with a few small chips to the corners and tail of the spine with light edge wear to the bottom edge.
