Libretto in traduzione italiana dell'opera musicata da Meyerbeer su parole di Eugene Scribe andata in scena al Teatro Regio di Torino durante il Carnevale Quaresima 1854-55. La prima assoluta dell'opera fu a Parigi, all'Opera, il 29 febbraio 1836. La prima italiana, con il titolo "Gli Anglicani" e' alla Pergola di Firenze il 26 dicembre 1841 (in un primo tempo, a causa della censura, l'opera venne anche rappresentata con il titolo di "I guelfi e i Ghibellini"). G. Pannunzio, in "La persecuzione dei giusti. Presenze ugonotte nella letteratura drammatica dell'Ottocento italiano" (p. 51), afferma che la traduzione dell'opera apparve gia' in ambiente napoletano dopo il 1836. Questo testo intitolato "Gli Ugonotti. Dramma in cinque atti di Eugene Scribe. Musica di Giacomo Meyerbeer" (Napoli, A spese dell'editore, s.d.) e' conforme a "Gli Ugonotti. Opera in cinque atti. Versione italiana" pubblicata a Milano da Ricordi senza data (ma 1837).
