This set features a collection of essays on architecture from Eugene Viollet-le-Duc covering topics such as the construction of buildings and masonry domestic architecture monumental sculptures and more. Eugene Viollet-le-Duc was an influential French architect and author known for restoring many prominent medieval landmarks in France particularly those damaged during the French Revolution. Included among his major works are the restorations of Notre-Dame de Paris the Basilica of Saint-Denis the medieval walls of the city of Carcassonne. He also planned much of the construction of the Statue of Liberty. A two volume complete set. Re-backed in crushed morocco. Externally smart with minor bumping and wear to the extremities of the boards slight scattered damp stains to the rear to 'vol II' and minor marks to the boards. Hinges re-enforced. From the library of Doctor Malcolm Higgs an important architectural historian who worked as an assistant architect to Stirling & Gowan working on their particularly renowned Leicester University Engineering Laboratory. During his long career he taught at the University of Edinburgh School of Architecture Canterbury School of Architecture and University of Nottingham. Later in his life he was the Vice-President and Honorary Librarian of the Royal Institute of British Architects and contributed and edited the "Journal of Architecture".
