Featuring renderings of global historical architecture including from China Egypt Assyria Greece Rome. Penned by Fench architect Eugene Viollet-le-Duc famous for his restoration work on medieval french landmarks including the Notre-Dame de Paris and the Mont-Saint-Michel. He wrote prominently on architecture and design and was incredibly influential on all the major Art Nouveau artists including Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe whilst also influencing writers and artists such as John Ruskin William Morris Christina Rossetti Edward Poynter. Bound in half calf and marbled boards. Externally generally smart. Moderate rubbing to extremities. Mild fading to spine. The odd scuff to boards. Very slight age toning to endpaper extremities. Viollet-le-Duc était un architecte français qui a restauré de nombreux monuments médiévaux importants en France y compris ceux qui avaient été endommagés ou abandonnés pendant la Révolution française. Ses principaux projets de restauration comprenaient Notre-Dame de Paris la basilique Saint-Denis le Mont Saint-Michel la Sainte-Chapelle et les murs médiévaux de la ville de Carcassonne. Ses écrits ultérieurs ont eu une influence notable sur une nouvelle génération d'architectes dont Antoni Gaudí Louis Sullivan et Frank Lloyd Wright. . Viollet-le-Duc participe également à la défense de Paris pendant la guerre franco-prussienne 1870-1871. He also planned much of the construction of the Statue of Liberty. In a quarter straight-up grain morocco binding over cloth covered boards doubleur endpapers and gilt to the edges.
