This June 6 1860 article covers an historic event regarding the first Japanese Embassy to America. The woodcut engravings: The top shows the Japanese Prince arriving at Willard's Hotel after visiting the President of the United States. He alights from a two-horse drawn carriage. A large cordon of American soldiers line the street with several Japanese bowing down to the Prince. The second and larger illustration below shows the procession of Japanese Ambassadors at the gates of the White House on their way to be presented to the President of the United States. The street is lined with a cordon of American soldiers behind which are a large number of civilians watching. The procession consists of several two-horse drawn carriages followed by a procession of Japanese Samurai retainers on foot. RARITY: Early original very good condition illustrated American newspapers of this event are quite RARE ! AS IT APPEARED IN THE PROCESSIONOF THE RECEPTION IN NEW YORK JUNE 16 1860. This is an excellent historical and graphic record of the great events of the first Japanese Embassy to America. The sheet shows two woodcut engravings. From the top shows the scene of the large paddle wheeler ship Alida flying the Japanese flag. Several other smaller ships are out to greet the arriving Japanese. On shore is a contingent of American Soldiers with their cannon firing a salute to the Japanese. The second etching shows the elaborately decorated five-horse car cart. There re three Japanese Samurai seated on the cart along with the treaty contained in a Japanese miniature building. American and Japanese flags adorn the cart. Two New York policemen walk along side the procession. Many onlookers stand by the fence and witness the procession. The lead article on the front page of the June 6 1931 issue of this weekly newspaper aimed at children around 10 to 11 years old addresses the Trade Diversion Policy implemented by the Australian government against the Japanese textile industry. Australia imposed high tariffs on textile imports dealing a significant blow to Japan as a primary exporter of cotton and rayon to Australia. The article furnishes comprehensive information on the trade dynamics between Australia and Japan ultimately asserting that the diversion policy aimed to counter cheap imports from Japan safeguarding the interests of the British textile industry. <br> <br>In addition to this primary piece the children's newspaper features educational exercises and showcases calligraphy works submitted by its young readers. It was a popular item with the "Red Guards" during the "Wenhua Da Geming" "Cultural Revolution". We have a few of these please inquire. . The book was published with a red cloth spine over boards and has 100 pages which = 200 pages/sides in all. . THE SUBJECT OF THIS DIARY: This diary was made a person who appears to be a "Barefoot Doctor" assigned to a rural location the last entry is May 16 1969 per the penned name & date on the last page. . The diary contains medical treatment exceptionally useful during the chaotic "Cultural Revolution" when "Red Guards" engaged in fights and confrontations of accused landlords moneylenders capitalists and ordinary Chinese who objected to being man-handled. The "Red Guards" were often injured or involved in fist-fights and other confrontations which caused them injury. . This diary/notebook was made to teach its author how to treat injured fellow "Red Guards." . It was also an early form of "Barefoot Doctors." That is to say amateur medical providers who treated 'ad-hoc' injuries as well as useful to those young "Red Guards" who went into the countryside to treat peasants who had no access to any medical parishioners. . The hold a banner advocating the Cultural Revolution."Man Sui" "Long Live the Cultural Revolution." . Each color photo has a caption indicating the historic setting. .
