Kenealy the disgraced barrister turned editorial crusader. These papers are not passive reportage; they are the printed artillery of a man who refused to let the Tichborne verdict stand. Kenealy having been ejected from the courtroom and Parliament alike took to the press with messianic fervour. The Englishman became his pulpit his battlefield and his confessional. Across these five issues he wages war on the establishment lionizes the Claimant and re-litigates the trial in serialized fury. The masthead may promise news but the content delivers obsession. 1844001832Dublin: James Duffy 1844. "The Nation" newspaper was founded in 1842 by Charles Gavin Duffy Thomas Davis and John Blake Dillon - it soon became a major voice for Irish nationalism. Support for O'Connell's Young Ireland movement caused its suppression in 1848. nd soon became the major voice for Irish nationalism; it was suppressed in 1848 but was revived and continued publication until 1900. This is a Very Good copy of the "Second Edition Revised" consisting of two sections 76 pages each bound together consisting of political songs and ballads originally published in the newspaper. The Scots may go to war to the sound of the pipes; the Irish go singing ditties and ballads! VERY SCARCE. Green cloth binding stamped in the blind and filled with gilt. Irish harp on the front cover. The binding is worn but remains sound; the text is clean and still very bright and supple. Decorative endpapers. The second section is dated earlier 1844. This copy has a Presentation INSCRIPTION by the "Publisher " on the Title Page of Part I. No dustwrapper; in an archival plastic protector. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Inscribed By Publisher. Rare musical newspaper published by Ebenezer Toner Root and Chauncy Marvin Cady the leading music publisher's in Chicago before the fire in 1871. The Song Messenger was printed from 1864 to 1871 when the company went bankrupt after the losses caused by the fire. In addition to advertisements for musical instruments lessons and scores this issue contains an "Introductory Course for Congregational Singing" which include instructions for learning Psalm LXVII "Let the People Praise Thee O God Let all the People Praise Thee." Also included is the song Gathering Home music by C. T. Lockwood and lyrics by H. M. Look. Lockwood was prolific song writer producing scores of melodies and marches for Chicago publishers during the 1860 and early 1870's. This issue of The Song Messenger was printed in August 1868 and according to OCLC in known in one copy at the Newberry Library which also holds the April issue of the same year. Knox College in Illinois and the Library of Virginia also hold one issue from the year 1869. Lockwood's Gathering Home was also printed in Western Musical World: A Journal of Music Art and Literature in 1868 by S. Brainard also of Chicago. Seymour. 3 Volumes bound as one 1- The Real Devil's Walk pp34 plus engraved frontis 6 full page illustrations by Robert Cruikshank with vignettes throughout text. An interesting work believed to be a revised version of "The Devil's Thoughts" 1799 but later revised with a letter appearing in the February 14th edition of the Morning Post 1830 with the claim by one R. C. Porson that the poem "The Devil's Walk" had been actually written by his deceased uncle "Professor Porson".2_ The Devil's Progress pp67 with engraved b/w frontis plus 4 full page b/w engravings and two vignettes designed by R. Seymour and engraved by Evans and Welch. This being another satire expanded from "The Devil's Thoughts" . 3-The Ancient and Modern History of the Devil this final part is missing it's title pages and preface but appears to be complete in two parts. Part one- Ancient history pp1-118 in 10 chapters . Part 2- Modern History pp119-264 in 11 chapters. It states on final page" Printed by J. Bailey 116 Chancery lane". 12mo although the poetry pieces are a smaller size paper. Contemporary binding of half brown calf over marbled boards with 5 tooled gilt lines and the title of "The Devil" to spine in good condition with some rubbing to boards rubbing to edges and leather. Inside hand written title page to history of the devil at beginning of book and old catalogue entry for "the devil's walk" to front pastedown. There is a little foxing and toning throughout but generally all pages in very good condition for their age in a tight solid binding. A very interesting item. Scarce. On March 1 1861 Senator Bright wrote a letter of introduction for Thomas B. Lincoln a Texas arms dealer. The letter was addressed to Jefferson Davis. In July 1861 Lincoln was captured with the letter by Union troops as he attempted to enter the Confederacy. Senator Bright was accused of being a traitor because of the letter. The proceedings of the Senate and impressions of the vote by Senators are included in the article. Senator Bright was expelled by a vote of 32 to 14. The yeas and nays votes with each Senator listed are on the front page. Jesse Bright was the fourth Senator from a Union state to be expelled during the Civil War.<br/><br/> unknown books
