AS IT APPEARED IN THE PROCESSIONOF THE RECEPTION IN NEW YORK JUNE 16 1860. This is an excellent historical and graphic record of the great events of the first Japanese Embassy to America. The sheet shows two woodcut engravings. From the top shows the scene of the large paddle wheeler ship Alida flying the Japanese flag. Several other smaller ships are out to greet the arriving Japanese. On shore is a contingent of American Soldiers with their cannon firing a salute to the Japanese. The second etching shows the elaborately decorated five-horse car cart. There re three Japanese Samurai seated on the cart along with the treaty contained in a Japanese miniature building. American and Japanese flags adorn the cart. Two New York policemen walk along side the procession. Many onlookers stand by the fence and witness the procession.
