Inscriptions on endpapers and blank adjacent leaves containing family records for former owner Samuel Davis 1766-1809 his wife Sarah Leedom Davis 1764-1806 Ruth Anna Davis 1801-1846 presumably their daughter her husband William Chandler 1787-1878 and their 10 children. Burials are noted as being "at the Valley" at Kennett Square and at Union Hill. Written in upper part of title page: "Friends' Boarding Haus Kennet Square Pa." Job Scott 1751-1793 was an American Quaker travelling minister. Portrait frontispice de Voltaire, feuillet de faux-titre, feuillet de titre, 355 pages, petit manque à la première page en tête sans atteindre le texte et feuillet désolidarisé en pied (voir photo), défaut mineur . Edition à la date de l'originale. Ouvrage plusieurs fois réédité jusqu’en 1797. Mis en relation avec Voltaire par d'Alembert, Duvernet entretint une correspondance suivie avec le philosophe dans le but d'écrire sa biographie. A la suite de démêlés avec des hommes de lettres, il passa plus d'un an à la Bastille en 1781 où il put rédiger sa Vie de Voltaire qui ne devait paraître qu'en 1786. Il avait entre temps publié un traité sur l'intolérance (1782) et auparavant des Réflexions critiques et philosophiques sur la tragédie, au sujet des Loix de Minos de Voltaire (1773). Soupçonné d'avoir participé à la rédaction de libelles contre la Cour, il fut exilé en Auvergne.Exemplaire grandes marges, très bon état intérieur, bon exemplaire.

Book A rebound copy of the second printing by Binns of Bunyan’s classic autobiography and account of his conversion. Grace Abounding was first published in 1666 and has remained in print continuously since then. There were 20 printings of the book before this “New Edition†was published it is number 21 of 47 in the ESTC list although ESTC’s census only finds 43 copies of the earlier printings a WorldCat search turned up about 38 holdings. ESTC shows five holdings of this printing: The British Library Leeds Central Library Leicester University Library Thoresby Society and the only North American holding at the University of Alberta. A WorldCat search turned up two other copies: National Library of Scotland and the only U.S. copy in the Robert J. Wickenheiser Collection of John Bunyan University of South Carolina. Size: 6"-7" - Sextodecimo 16mo. Item Type: Book. The text block remains tight. The pages are slightly tanned but remain supple. The front and rear free end papers are darked around the edges as a result of contact with the areas of the end papers that were glued over the leather on the inside covers. Three leaves pp. 121-2 125-6 & 131-2 are on paper where the page edges are uncut because the paper was not wide enough to make the cut. Bound in paneled leather although both of the boards are now detached. Leather is missing from the compartments at the head and foot of the spine. Any original title has perished and someone wrote the title on a label attached to the spine now barely visible. No foxing in this copy. There are two signatures of previous owners on the inside front cover and free front end paper. The page edges are slightly browned. Quantity Available: 1.
