Morris was of course most notably a poet essayist fantasist and founder of the Arts & Crafts Movement; perhaps less well-known were his political activities which contributed to the gradual acceptance of socialism in Great Britain in the late 19th century. This pamphlet appears to be the first American publication of his "Chants for Socialists" usually said to have been first issued in 1885 though actually dating in a variant form to two years earlier.
