1942355490725714London: Routledge 1942. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. Gilbert Stuart translated by: Affairs of Destiny London: Routledge 1942. First UK Edition in dustwrapper priced 8s. net to the inside flap. Publisher's turquoise-green boards with black lettering to the spine. Boards exceptionally bright and clean apart from a strip of fading at the spine tips. No previous owner inscriptions. There is a former owner's name and contemporary date to the front paste-down. Very clean interior. No foxing. Overall a near fine copy. The very good dustwrapper is faded to the spine with a touch of wear at the spine tips and with totally unnecessary strips of brown paper-based tape to the verso along the top and bottom edges. "Affairs of Destiny" is one of the scarcest wartime Simenon first editions the dustwrapper of which was made from very poor quality paper hence why it never turns up in really fine condition. A fragile and scarce war-time production. Uncommon. Contains two novels: Newhaven - Dieppe and The Woman of the Grey House. Further photographs available upon request. Routledge hardcover
