1950355490725723London: Routledge 1950. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. London: Routledge & Kegan Paul 1950. First UK Edition in dustwrapper priced 9s 6d net to the inside flap and over-stamped VERSEAS EDITION. pp222. Publisher's turquoise cloth with black titles to spine. About very good spine faded to a lighter hue and more so to the spine tips matching wear in the dustwrapper; there is a neat name in caps to the front free end-paper. The dustwrapper has a slither of loss at the tip of the spine not affecting any lettering and a couple of chips at the tail that remove the "R" of ROUTLEDGE and most of "KEGAN". Quite a nice copy. Seldom found in really nice condition due to the fragility of the wrapper. Photographs/scans available upon request. Routledge hardcover
1933614414New York: Covici Friede 1933. 1st US. Hardcover. Very Good/None. 267 pages. Hardcover. Blue cloth covers with title in silver on spine minor rubbing to edges. Previous owners name on inside front cover. Light wear. Clean unmarked text. A nice copy of this scarce title. There’s a distinct lack of glamour to this first Maigret mystery. In itself that’s interesting as this is a story centered on an international con-man and an American investor in one of the finest hotels in Paris. Record # 614414 Covici, Friede hardcover

197016289Ebury Press 1970. Hardcover. Good/Fair. Frederick Franck. Text consists of extracts from Simenon translated to English in 1970. Pages edges are sunned this includes about a quarter inch of blue cloth boards top bottom and foredge as well as interior. In the case of the boards though masked by the DJ and the endpapers this yellowing is visible. In the case of the interior text it is quite faint and I had to take it too full sunlight to inspect it. The binding is square with no separation gaps but not at tight as new from being gently read. Bottom edges of boards and corners are rubbed but the rest of the edges and faces are nice and crisp as is the text. The DJ artwork front back and spine panels have minimal wear bright ant vivid however all the edges are in a bad state: about a half inch at both ends of spine top and bottom edges are frayed creased half a dozen tears curling outward and beginning to seriously chip on corners. 12.25 x 8.25 inches / 212 x 31 cm. profusely illustrated with drawings by Frederick Franck. 191 pages. Collectible and attractive if DJ is smoothed out with a protective transparent book cover.

Ebury Press hardcover
