In the original green cloth binding. Externally very smart with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Minor handling marks to the boards. Ex libris bookplate of one Philip A. First edition of this collection of tales from the first queen of Romania Elisabeth of Wied 1843-1916. Writing as Carmen Sylva Elisabeth gathered legends and folklore from various regions of Roumania and Germany including the Hartz Mountains Black Forest and Saxony. These tales were originally written in German and translated for this volume by British translator and poet Alma Strettell 1853-1939. A scarce and charming publication. George Allen hardcover
