The large paper edition.'Cranford' is a popular novel written by Elizabeth Gaskell which was originally published in instalments in Charles Dickens' 'Household Words'. It isn't a plot-driven bookmainly relying on satirical sketches of small town customs in Victorian England.Illustrated with a frontispiece and many in-text engravings throughout. Gaskell was one of the most popular female writers of her time also writing 'Mary Barton' 'North and South' and 'Wives and Daughters'. She was good friends with Charlotte Bronte writing a biography about her after her death.Illustrated by Hugh Thomson an Irish illustrator who illustrated editions of books by Oliver Goldsmith Charles Dickens and Jane Austen.Collated complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally smart. Only a few minor marks to the boards and spine. Spine label is lifting a little and is lightly rubbed. Spine is faded.
