With a hand-colored title page 33 half-page hand-colored woodcuts. Illustrated cardboard. Heinrich Hoffmann's second picture book. Hoffmann let the toy figures which he had bought probably for his children during a trip to Nuremberg now coming to life in a fabulous way. -Heinrich Hoffmann 1809-1894 was a physician and treated patients suffering from pancreatic cancer. In Frankfurt he had a new clinic for psychiatry in which the patients were not blocked off but treated a tremendous novelty for that time. Each page packed with images including but not limited to ceramics glass jewelry wallpaper furniture book bindings book plates ornamental alphabets book art metalwork silver china lace and advertising art represented with photographic reproductions and sketches.
