Its inaugural exhibition July 18 1937 was the "Tag der deutschen Kunst" Day of the German Art and was intended as an illuminate contrast to the condemned modern art on display in the concurrent Degenerate art exhibition Entartete Kunst also held by the Nazis in Munich on July 19 1937.

This scarce stereoscopic album contains 100 stereographic images size: 2 1/2 x 5" 22 of which are pasted on heavy card stock within the textual portion and 78 resting in lowered pockets inside back board. They show striking views of the city of Munich adorned with decorations and swastikas; outside and inside views of the impressive "Haus der deutschen Kunst"; Hitler's arrival for the inauguration of the building and the exhibition as well as views of numerous showcased artwork duly approved by the Nazis.

This album is complete with its stereoscope resting in lowered pocket inside front board and stereo-views in three compartments of inside back cover. Fischer p.647 First Edition of this attractive and profusely illustrated atlas. In 1905 Schaudinn and Hoffmann ended the long search for the organism of syphilis by the discovery of the Spirochaeta palladia. The discovery was the result of the appointment by the German Academy of Science of a committee consisting of Fritz Schaudinn a protozoologist and Erik Hoffmann a dermatologist both young men of established ability in their fields. The story of the search and its final discovery is one of the most interesting stories in microbiology and is beautifully told by Metchnikoff. Not in Waller Osler Cushing Reynolds etc. Rare ! unknown

First Edition of the First Report: "On March 3 1905 Schaudinn discovered the causal organism of syphilis Spirochaeta pallida in serum obtained from a genital lesion by Erich Hoffmann 1868-1959. Schaudinn later renamed the spirochaete Treponemepallidum." Fritz Richard Schaudin 1871-1906 originally wanted to study philology including German philology in Berlin but soon turned to the natural sciences especially zoology. In 1894 he was awarded a doctorate in natural sciences; in the same year he became an assistant at the Berlin Zoological Institute and in 1898 habilitated in zoology at Berlin University where he read mainly on protozoa and general cell theory. Groundbreaking work in these fields in particular the morphology of rhizopods haliozoans and foraminifera soon made him known as an outstanding protist researcher; his important studies on the development of the coccidia Cyclospora karyolytica on malaria parasitic rhizopods and on trypanosomes and spirochaetes were carried out on a voyage to the Arctic Ocean and at the Rovigno Zoological Station. In 1904 Schaudinn was appointed head of the protozoa laboratory at the Imperial Health Office in Berlin. In the spring of 1905 in collaboration with E. Hoffmann he discovered the causative agent of syphilis Spirochaeta pallida which immortalised his name. In 1906 he died at the age of barely 35 having been honoured both as a researcher and as a man.
