He struggles to establish his true identity." Notes: Text in German. <br>Arnold Zweig 1887 – 1968 was a German writer and anti-war and anti-fascist activist. He is best known for his six-part cycle on World War I. From 1917 Arnold Zweig soldier since 1915 was a member of the press department of Commander-in-Chief East. There the secular Jew Zweig came into contact with Eastern Jewry leaving a lasting impression on him. In Lithuania which was occupied by the Germans since 1915 he met the graphic artist Hermann Struck who was a religious Zionist. When Poland annexed the district of Vilnius and broke terror over the Jews Struck and Zweig found themselves in a gesture of accusatory pity in the common work.
