This copy is in remarkably well preserved condition bound in original blue linen covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine. The unclipped dust wrapper is a trifle dusty and lightly sunned to the spine with a sl. stain to edge but still really nice for its age for its age. It has been covered in clear removable protective film. The Complaisant Lover was first produced on 18 June 1959 by John Gielgud at the Globe Theatre London where it ran for almost a year. The cast included; Ralph Richardson as Victor Rhodes Paul Scofield as Clive Root and Phyllis Calvert as Mary Rhodes. <br/> <br/> Heinemann 1959 (1st UK) hardcover

The contents are clean throughout. The text block edge is as usual a little tanned due to the poor quality of post-war paper used. Complete with the near fine lightly rubbed and nicked D/W which is exceptionally clean and bright with a couple of short closed tears at the bottom edge and a single small piece of tape applied by a former owner to the underside at the rear flap fold. With just a hint fading to the spine which is really bright and quite scarce thus. The D/W is not price-clipped 9s 6d net to the front flap. Includes a partial publisher's Book Society Choice wrap-around band missing the front panel and front free end-paper portions. The basis for the 1953 movie of the same name directed by George More O'Ferrall starring Trevor Howard Elizabeth Allen Maria Schell and Peter Finch.
