The 'Aldine' edition. Five volume complete set. Bound in half calf with marbled paper to the boards. This set features the complete poetical works of the popular Poet Laureate John Dryden. This edition also contains a biography of the noted poet written by Mr Robert Bell with the selection of his works being the earliest and best copies.Undated dated by copies held on Jisc. Bound in half calf with marbled paper to the boards. Externally very smart with slight fading and marks to the spine wear to the head of the spine to 'Volume One' light bumping and wear to the extremities of the boards and rubbing to the boards. Bookplate belonging to 'Josceline Grove' to the front free endpaper with light spotting. Internally firmly bound to all but 'Volume Three' which is generally firm with the edition page weak with generally bright and clean pages with light spotting to the front and rear heavier to 'Volume Five' with light spotting throughout. Two notes neatly inserted into 'Volume Two'. Very Good Bell and Daldy hardcover

Contemporary full speckled calf with raised bands and gilt titles and decoration to spine. All edges speckled red. Some minor ink notes to fly-leaf. Top 1.5cm of title page trimmed away probably due to an ownership. Otherwise a crisp clean copy internally. Heavy wear to spine with much gilt rubbed away including all the titles with some loss to head-cap. Upper joint split but holding well. Lighter wear to boards. Good. 1931015826London: The Nonesuch Press 1931. 6 vols complete. Near Fine unworn condition see photos. Appears unread. Bright clean square and tight. Sharp corners. Inner hinges are perfect. Uniformly bound in the original attractive marbled boards with green cloth spines stamped in shiny gold. Spines are still a pleasing green -- only very slightly sun-faded see photo -- much less than usual for this set which is often seen with spines sunned to an ugly brown. Each volume has long been protected by a homemade clear plastic dust jacket -- all of which have done their job well resulting in NO fraying and almost NO rubbing. PLEASE NOTE: Vertical white lines in the photos are light reflected from the clear plastic dust jackets NOTon the books themselves. There are faint shadows at the corners of the front free endpapers from tape adhesive offset minor -- see photo. Otherwise all pages are fresh crisp and unmarked -- uncut and unopened apparently never read. NO foxing. NO owner's name or bookplate. Each volume measures 6.75" wide by 10.25" tall. This is number 457 of 750 standard sets another 50 having been being printed on Van Gelder paper. Volumes I-II were published in 1931; Volumes III-VI in 1932. cxxxvi 460pp; iv 532pp; iv 595pp; iv 603pp; iv 545pp; iv 594pp. Edited and with notes by Montague Summers. Top gilt edges are dusty.
