The larger in a modern font. 8.5"x6" & 12.5"x9". 79 & xxix 97pp. . Both are 99 of 250. Tipped in slip reads: "Compliments of William Andrew Clark Jr. Christmas 1929". Clark wrote a 22 page preface followed by a dedication then Dryden's preface then the play in modern font. Last the color plates. Both books immaculate flawless BUT: minor wear of upper tip of smaller vol. There is more wear on lower tips of larger vol this appears to be worse than it actually is as the underlying board is black. Both vols with bookplates of Stuart Walker of the Portmanteau Theater. Bkplts designed by Dugald Stewart Walker 1883-1937. Dugald was a writer children's book illustrator and bookplate designer. He wrote a few books illustrated dozens and designed many dozen bookplates. His career as an illustrator was covered in the 1991 "Virginia Cavalcade". The artical: "The Art of Make-Believe The Bookplates of Dugald Stewart Walker" is by Stacy Moore & Edward Campbell. A google search found a 1917 artical in the Pensacola News Journal connecting both Walkers. It describes a play by Dugald performed in Stuart's Portmanteau Theater. This is the small folio volume that was originally issued along with its 8vo companion and together housed in a slipcase. The smaller volume and the slipcase are not present. 97 pages followed by 13 color illustrated plates. Vellum over spine with red paper over boards. Paper covers are a little worn at corners and show a few light surface scuffs.
