Ink inscription to the title page of both volumes. A charming two-volume set of poetry by John Dryden including his best known poems such as 'Threnodia Augustalis' 'The Hind and the Panther' and 'Annus Mirabilis' as well as many prologues epilogues songs epitaphs and elegies. This set is uncommon to find in this edition.John Dryden 1631-1700 was an English poet literary critic translator and playwright who was appointed England's first Poet Laureate in 1668. He dominated the literary scene of Restoration England to such a point that the period became known as the Age of Dryden. With a four-page catalogue of books printed by Robert and Andrew Foulis to the rear of Volume I. In full calf bindings. Externally generally smart with a little rubbing to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. Half of the spine label to Volume I is detached but intact and kept inside the front of Volume I for safe-keeping. Small loss of leather to the head of the spine of Volume II.
