198615163Iowa City: University of Iowa Press 1986. First edition. Hardcover. A near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket. This copy is briefly inscribed on the title page. Author's first book. Six stories encompassing a vast gamut of personalities situations and emotions these stories penetrate our motives for doing what is right. Often there is no right or wrong and the characters' motives for the choices they make are as diverse as the childhood memories they cherish and abhor. In the end this book probes individual impulse and responsibility creating stories so unerringly authentic that they become—irrepressibly—part of everyone who reads them. "The Darkness of Love" narrates three days in the life of a black policeman distressed by his inner fears of racism and irresistibly attracted by his wife's sister. In "Dancing in the Movies" a college student returns to his hometown where he finds his girlfriend—a heroin addict—and tries to convince her to overcome her habit. There are stories of men at war of lovers trying to begin a relationship of others trying to sustain their love. Each story revolves around characters with a choice to make and Robert Boswell renders these characters in all of their fine vulnerable and relentless attributes. University of Iowa Press hardcover

AA/SC/16719
Antique Cars; Rockne Cars; Notre Dame; Knute Rockne; This is an article that appeared in the Scene Magazine of Dallas January 1 1978 whereby the writer Dean Boswell interviewed the then proud owner Ed Freeman concerning his 1932 Rockne Model 75 4-passenger Coupe named for the great coach Knute Rockne. Rockne Motors Corp. a Studebaker subsidiary produced three cars and a panel delivery truck for the 1932 and 1933 model years. The company and its vehicles were named for Knute K. Rockne to honor his memory as the successful Notre Dame football coach as well as his having been a motivational speaker for Studebaker to its dealers. Rockne died in a commercial airplane crash in Kansas March 31 1931. Nearly 38000 Rocknes were produced from December 1931-July 1933 when production ceased during the Great Depression due to financial difficulties of Studebaker. About 150 Rocknes are believed listed currently in some 14 countries. This a three page magazine cut-out which includes the photographs of Mr. Freeman his Model 75 Rockne and Coach Knute K. Rockne. Photography by Randy Eli Grothe. Condition is Very Good with normal age wearing for magazine style format.
unknown
