In the present edition Boswell vigorously replies to criticisms levelled at him by the Rev. Thomas Wright in his pamphlet An Account of the Advantage and Method of Watering Meadows 1789. This very early proposal for a graduate institution in architecture in the United States seems little known; it is not mentioned by Mary Woods in her recent book FROM CRAFT TO PROFESSION THE PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE IN NINETEENTH CENTURY AMERICA.
