Davis was notoriously prickly and a generally reluctant autograph signer. Though authentic autograph signatures are certainly obtainable we are aware of only one other extant authentically signed copy also sold by Schubertiade of Davis's greatest masterpiece. Of the previous example sold by Schubertiade noted jazz collector and dealer Larry Rafferty noted that in his 40 years of collecting jazz autographs this is "absolutely the only copy I have ever seen -- or heard of" and our research further confirms that no signed copies have appeared at auction or in trade catalogues.  <br style="">The best-selling jazz record of all time is universally acknowledged as a masterpiece revered as much by rock and classical music fans as by jazz lovers. Kind of Blue brought together seven now-legendary musicians in the prime of their careers: tenor saxophonist John Coltrane alto saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley pianists Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly bassist Paul Chambers drummer Jimmy Cobb and of course trumpeter Miles Davis. To the musicians who recorded it Kind of Blue was just another session when it was released in August 1959. But the disc was quickly recognized by the jazz community as a classic. Jazz musicians were startled by the truly different sound on an album that laid out a clear roadmap for further modal explorations. "So What" became the tune the one that every musician -- not just the practitioners of jazz -- simply had to know. The other tracks also quickly became standards and the individual solos throughout the record continue to inspire musicians to this day. Drummer Jimmy Cobb puts it all down to simplicity -- the reason Kind of Blue has remained so successful for so long. In 1946 Simone de Beauvoir began to outline what she thought would be an autobiographical essay explaining why when she had tried to define herself the first sentence that came to mind was "I am a woman." That October my maiden aunt Beauvoir's contemporary came to visit me in the hospital nursery. I was a day old and she found a little tag on my bassinet that announced "It's a Girl!" In the next bassinet was another newborn "a lot punier" she recalled whose little tag announced "I'm a Boy!" There we lay innocent of a distinction-- between a female object and a male subject-- that would shape our destinies. It would also shape Beauvoir's great treatise on the subject. The Second Sex deals with the treatment of women throughout history and is regarded as a major work of feminist philosophy and the starting point of second-wave feminism. Literary scholar Camille Paglia praised The Second Sex calling it "brilliant" and "the supreme work of modern feminism." A hand letterpress book with original text and a facsimile-style printing of the text of the 5th Sonnet of an early French edition of Petrarch. The third line of this sonnet reads "Le laurier digne." which has been printed to read "Le LAUrier digne. and has been combined in the same fashion with line 7 "Votre noble REgard." to offer an apparent omage to LAURE. Most pages of text face a color etchings by an artist identified as Signore Fiorini; there are a total of 12 etchings. Each sheet measures 11.5" x 15.5" 29cm x 39cm and is folded in half forming 4 pages. There are nine such sheets 36 pages enclosed in a decorated paper portfolio and protected in a linen-covered clamshell box with "L" printed on the spine. Each etching is protected by glassine. Hand-numbered 12 of 50 copies signed by Simone' Piccone and Fiorini. The colophon reads "Cette edition des vers de PETRARQUE dedies a Laure Bissiere est la seule connue a ce jour. Elle comprend 50 exemplaires imprimes sur Auvergne a la main de Richard de Bas par l'artiste lue-meme; soit un exemplaire numerote 1 a Laure quatre exemplaires numerotes HC II a HC V; quarante cinq exemplaires numerotes 6 a 50." The condition is excellent with a few sheets with tiny spots of foxing probably inherent in the manufacture by Richard de Bas. The title page contains the phrase "Sic Itur Ad Astra Hic Et Nunc Plus Ultra." Another sheet reads "Acheve d'imprimer a Paris le 15 Mai 1978." Very little about this unusual publication can be found by research except that Laure Bissiere may be also knows as Madame Laure Loutre Bissiere. The artwork of Roger Bissiere 1886-1964 and B. Louttre 1926-2012 sold at Post War and Contemporary Art auctions has been accompanied by a certificate from Madame Laure Loutre Bissiere. An interesting and beautifully made book. Original edition of this pamphlet by Simone de Horsin-Déon who was Président of the Société des Peintures Restaurateurs. His pamphlet written after the Revolution of 1848 was suppressed addresses the issue of back pay for conservators who lost wages while the Louvre was occupied. With the establishment of a new government and new museum administration the situation of the remaining experts and conservators needed to be addressed. The new leadership in museum a welcome result for Horsin-Déon needed to be recognize the contributions of the experts who had dedicated their lives to art who loved the museum and worked with selfless devotion for the benefit of the nation. He develops his thoughts in a few chapters which include his views of the how the Louvre should be organized; how experts should be hired and compensated; the director of restoration department be an expert conservator and not a bureaucrat; and that conservators should be hired based on skills and not connections.
