A copy listed in NUC of a 1833 edition is located at Columbia and the Newberry Library. The first 154 pages of this catalogue is a manual for booksellers and contains a series of essays on the origins of printing the first presses in Italy the art of printing in the 16th 17th and 18th centuries. Equally as important are Branca's essays on bibliography a bookselling and publishing. It also includes a list of bibliographies used by the book trade notices about rare editions of early printed books and a short essay on the restoration of old books. This is followed by a priced catalogue of 18th and 19th century Italian and French books for sale. The collection is strong in contemporary literature and poetry as well as 18th and 19th century edition of classical and Renaissance authors. Science especially the natural sciences physics electricity botany and mathematics. </p> <br /> <p>NUC cites a copy at University of Illinois only: ICCU cites one copy in Milan. Each is a bifolium with the address and postmarks on the reverse of the second leaf. Each is docketed by Otard Dupuy. All ten are in excellent condition on lightly-aged paper. The six firms are: Bevan & Smith Liverpool two letters both 1850; Christopher Bushell & Co. Liverpool 1859; John Currie two letters both in French: London 1828 and Stockton 1828; A. Leveau three letters: Aberdeen 1849 Exeter 1850 and Sunderland 1850; William Strachan & Co London 1828; George Wildes & Co. London 1828. Leveau would appear to have acted as Otard Dupuy's British agent as his three letters give information of the settling of accounts with other firms. On 5 June 1850 he writes: 'I find the Brandy trade quite at a stand still as far has sic ordering is concerned but at this time of the year presume it is always so. I paid Messrs. Jackson of Hull £3 - 15 - 0 which please credit my a/c'. On 18 January 1828 John Currie writes in French with quotations in English relating to the loss of stock on a voyage: 'properly stowed but leaked from a head in consequence of the heading being too short' and 'leaked from a head being shifted apparently from the pressure of the Puncheons stowed above it'. On 6 December 1859 the firm of Christopher Bushell writes that 'there is no House in Cognac with whom we would have allied ourselves more readily because we believe there is none more honorable and respectable than your own; but notwithstanding that we have undertaken a somewhat arduous task in the introduction of a new Brand we have nevertheless worked most happily and harmoniously with our present friends and we have every reason to hope and to believe that our connexion with them will long continue.' Unique collection of 74 watercolors ink drawings collages and mixed media playful caricatures of a Parisian advertising executive presumably by members of his creative staff. Most of the individual send-ups are imaginative and amusing; the cumulative effect though is truly extraordinary in the sheer variety and range of the works. As a whole the album honors not merely a particular individual but the human creative spirit! Thus we have a Soviet Dupuy an angelic Dupuy an overworked Dupuy a gaucho Dupuy a scout Dupuy a wandering eye Dupuy a lolling Dupuy; he is depicted as a painter a mariner a general and on and on. These various roles assigned to him scarcely suggest the richness of ideas of the particular artwork. In just one drawing showing the executive in a bathtub we see floating atop the water the names of products presumably ones he promoted and other names spraying over him from the showerhead. Dupuy based on the wealth of images we have of him was a quintessential Frenchman in his appearance; we can also surmise that he was beloved if not also feared a bit and certainly he had to have had a charisma for few businessmen have probably ever received such an effortful and remarkable tribute as represented by this manuscript. The folio measures 33 by 28 cm 13 by 11 inches. With a dust jacket that at its center has a cameo relief of Dupuy himself. The DJ now protected with mylar has use creases minor spotting and toning. The leaves are all clean and the album is tight. unknown
