Provenance: William Fitch contemporary ownership signatures on verso of map. Mounted on the inside front cover of the binding is the 1830 Census data for the state recording the total population of the state at 937903. The Mitchell family started to produce atlases in 1846 and continued into the early 1890s. Around 1860 S. Augustus Mitchell Jr. took over and the atlas would be called Mitchell's New General Atlas.
