Four very scarce albumen stereoview photographs visually capturing the Gallery of Fine Arts at the historic 1873 Universal Exhibition of Vienna which was intended to mark the silver anniversary of Emperor Franz-Joseph I and far surpassed any of the others in area with 233 hectares featuring 53000 exhibitors from 35 countries in 194 pavilions. Featuring the first appearance of the emerging Meiji-era Japan along with many pavilions promoting the world’s progress in industry art education and agriculture. The massive rotunda featured 70000 square feet and a huge number of exhibits including the clocks seen here in the photos. Also featured are the Belgian Moroccan Jury Pavilion and the Swedish. Unfortunately the Exhibition lost massively due to a cholera outbreak in Vienna and the stock market crash of 1873 9 days after the Fair opened. Still although losing the modern equivalent of $ 200 million and severely depressing the local finances vendors were pleased and 7 million did attend the Fair. Klosz 1844-1913 was an exceptionally successful Viennese photographer whose postcards CDV’s and albums documented Austro-Hungarian events. Kramer 1835-1892 was an early and longtime noted photographer in Vienna from 1858 until his death and was the co-founder and director of the Vienna Photographers Association the organization which shot over 2200 different images for the 1873 Vienna Fair; Frankenstein 1843-1918 photographed landscapes and architecture in and around Vienna and across the Austro-Hungarian Empire. 1944016537London: Nicholson & Watson 1944. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair. First edition first printing. Hardback. 19 × 12.5cm 179pp. Published in 1944 at the height of the Second World War Future of Man is a profound and urgent plea for a new global morality. Writing under the pseudonym Frank E. Warner the author was actually Ernest Frankenstein a distinguished international jurist who had been stripped of his citizenship and forced to flee Berlin in the late 1930s. Having witnessed the collapse of European legal and ethical structures firsthand Frankenstein uses this work to propose a "Natural Ethics" - a framework designed to prevent the recurrence of totalitarianism. His central thesis argues for a society built on the dual pillars of maximum individual freedom and an equal regard for the life and freedom of others. Condition: Fair to poor. Whilst the book remains in good readable condition the cloth binding is badly shaken with rippling and grubby marks and some wear to the hinges. However the main body of text is in better condition and is complete.

Nicholson & Watson hardcover
