Edizione originale e londinese (le successive impresse a Firenze) di questa traduzione del Salvini (m. 1729), "assistita e pubblicata da Paolo Rolli, che la indirizzò ad Enrico Davenant, inglese, da cui ottenne il ms. Ha al fine una leggiadrissima Cicalata... ch'è opera dello stesso Salvini." (Gamba, 2438). La "Cicalata" è dotto scherzoso lascivo excursus sopra una statuetta di Priapo, ove accanto alle allusive citazioni classiche non mancano riferimenti al "male di Napoli" o "mal francese" sconosciuto nell'antichità, e alle sue origini recenti. L'A. si diletta nell'elogio del Fallo che parla in prima persona e sciorinando le denominazioni con cui fu chiamato nei vari tempi e parallelamente cita le voci corrispondenti dell'equivalente femminile. Produced anonymously by the same publisher’s of girlie pin-up photos at the time they featured erotic amateur photography and fairly explicit storytelling often with elements of BDSM multiple partners extramarital affairs incest and assorted other taboo breaking elements -- all of which were severely restricted by obscenity laws into the Mid-20th-Century. They were not inexpensive at the time and typically priced at $ 5.00 although presumably underground booksellers and distributors would offer volume discounts.
