Yours John Steinbeck" and no one was more surprised than his editors and publisher when this book became a book-of-the-month selection as it is generally considered the least of all his published works these unrevised galley proofs were printed on rectos only two publisher labels are affixed to front cover the first is numbered as #4 and includes publication information with March crossed out under publication date with April written in below it is another label with three paragraphs about the book the $2.95 price has been marked out with $3 substituted the proof has none of the preliminaries set in type nor any of the William Penn DuBois illustrations not recorded by Goldstone & Payne Morrow 240 now housed in a custom folding case.
