Prospero Alpino 1553-1616 professor at Padua travelled through Egypt Crete and Greec from 1580 to 1583. He was the first European writer to mention the coffee plant which he saw at Cairo. Alpinus classifies here the morbid phenomena into genera and discusses their prognostic value. The book is also quoted by Weinberger for its references to dentistry. The passages of Life and Death in diseases concentrates on the patient's mental state and its bearing on health as well as the usual physical and diagnostic signs.
