Publisher's original green cloth with gilt titles to the spine in the John Minton colour illustrated dustwrapper. There are a further eight full page illustrations in black and white throughout the text by John Minton. An excellent near fine copy the binding square and firm with a little bumping to the extremities the cloth and gilt are bright and fresh. The contents toned to the wartime economy paper stock are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the bright very good rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has small chips to the fold corners and a couple of closed tears one to the upper spine fold and another to the edge of the front flap. Not price-clipped 10s 6d net to the lower front flap. An attractive example of a notoriously fragile dustwrapper. The only novel by the French author Alain-Fournier first published in 1913 a year before we was killed in the first month of World War I. Scarce dust jacket in acceptable condition with hard cover in good condition from the collection of Ian Angus former librarian at King's College London and deputy librarian at University College London ownership pencilled to FEP. Jacket is notably shelfworn and in two halves with creasing and wear to cover edges corners and folds. Open tears are present at spine head and foot rear jacket base and along the head. Chips and nicks present and taped repairs are noted. However the John Milton coloured illustrations to front and rear are unmarked with the original colours vibrant and true. Boards have wear to edges and corners slightly bowed at head and bumped corners. Pageblock is tanned and discoloured this leading into pastedowns and endpapers with light tanning to textblock edges.
