Le figure riflessive della "Comédie humaine" orchestrano così la tensione irrisolta tra linee di pensiero dissonanti affermate simultaneamente nei termini di una serie di alternative teoriche non oltrepassabili, che si affrontano nel tempo senza mai risolversi: diventando, cioè, il banco di prova di un discorso globale sui plans du vrai tanto più relazionale, ambivalente, pluriprospettico mano a mano che sperimenta il proprio farsi moltiplicandosi e decentrandosi in un conflitto mai compiuto.

The original individual volumes. Each volume usually consists of: at least a 26 page text; frequently enhanced with woodcut devices and ornaments (many designed by Samuel Warner), and portraits and pl ates; and often with ads for the products of the Roycroft Shop (furniture, brass, books, bindings, etc.); as well as some commercial ads (Pears' Soap). Some printing in red and black. 8vo. 15.5 x 20. 5 cm. Uncut. Sewn into original printed wraps, as issued. Fine condition. Hubbard (1856-1915), was a prolific writer and a tireless entrepreneur who is most famous today as the founder and guiding lig h t of the Roycroft printing and craft shops. These were based on the Hammersmith arts and crafts complex of William Morris, but with many American and Hubbard-ian twists and turns. Until his death on t he S.S. Lusitania, he was one of the most dynamic and famous men in the world. On his first trip abroad his letters home were mostly travelogue, and they became the basis for his first magazine eff ort . He sold Putnam's the idea of putting out a brief 'Little Journey' biographical sketch on a monthly basis. Later, when he established his own print shop, he took over the whole project. He also p rint ed and published two national opinion magazines, the 'Fra' and the 'Philistine'. He was also responsible for the famed 'A Message to Garcia'. Reliure en demi maroquin grenat à coins, dos orné de dentelles dorés, titre doré, tête dorée, reliure signée Cuzin. Il sagit de la 4ème édition et non la 5e, considérée comme le meilleur illustré de Gustave Doré. Premier tirage. Quelques rousseurs, marges légèrement brunies. Charmant exemplaire (Carteret, III, p.50).

Che raccontare dell'immenso affresco de "les contes drolatiques"? C'è da perdersi! Ed è un graditissimo naufragio nello spumeggiante mare del robusto Honoré de Balzac, volta a volta suadente, iperbolico, rodomonte, chiassoso, farsesco, dolce, melanconico. E la matita fertile di Doré s'accompagna, s'amalgama, si sposa con le parole. Il volume è in ottimo stato, qualche lievissima e rarissima fioritura. Un peccato non averlo!
