21691Paris 30 August 1719. In French. 2 pp. 8 x 7 inches in good condition with an integral blank leaf. Jacques Bazin de Besons 1646-1733 Marshal of France. In his youth he participated in the Siege of Candia and the Franco-Dutch War where he was severely injured in the Battle of Seneffe. Promoted to brigadier in 1688 he commanded the reserve corps during the Battle of Steinkerque and the Battle of Neerwinden 1693. In the War of the Spanish Succession he fought in 1701 in Germany and then as Lieutenant-General in Italy where he participated in the Battle of Chiari Battle of Luzzara and the sieges of Governolo Vercelli and Ivrea. In 1708 he moved to Spain and fought in the successful Siege of Tortosa 1708. Named Marshal in 1709 he was unable to prevent Guido Starhemberg from taking Balaguer. In 1711 together with Henry d'Harcourt he was made commander of the French Army in Germany. In the Rhine campaign 1713 his troops besieged and took Landau. After the death of Louis XIV he became a member of the Council of State. unknown

Germain René Michel Bazin 24 September 1901 – 2 May 1990 was a French art historian curator at the Louvre Museum from 1951 to 1965. Germain Bazin was born in Suresnes on 24 September 1901. He studied art history at the University of Paris. Bazin became an art professor at the University of Brussels in 1934 before returning to Paris to work at the Louvre in 1936. From 1951 to 1965 he was chief curator of paintings at the Louvre. From 1965 to 1970 he was in charge of painting restoration for France's national museum system.
