A popular work which was reprinted many times until 1885. Hedrick mentions only the 1856 printing. Moderate foxing throughout. Overall a presentable reading copy. Front & back covers are loose and the spine is missing. ; Note that this is five books bound as one. Wilkinson's first book is a first edition. "Visit to a Farm-House" is a second edition also dated 1805. "The Benevolent Widow" is a third edition. "Prince Lee Boo" is undated and page 31/32 is clipped. "Hamlain" is not a first as it is dated 1804 and I believe the work was published in 1799. It may however be a first Irish printing as it was done in Dublin. The first volume contains the twenty-first edition of "The Peacock 'At Home'" and "The Butterfly's Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast" and "The Fancy Fair or Grand Gala of the Zoological Gardens." - 45 pages plus publisher's advertisement leaf. The second volume is published by Grant and Griffith - the successors to John Harris and contains the 1854 twenty-fourth edition of "The Peacock 'At Home' " and "The Butterfly's Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast" - 32 pages - illustrated by Harrison Weir. Finely bound in full tan calf with gilt decoration and heavy gilt to the spine all edge gilt bound by Hayday. with disks with gilt coats of arms of William Twopeny and Alexander Lawson Duncan pasted to the front end-paper. The external condition is very clean internally a few small spots to end-papers pages are slightly toned otherwise clean. In the publisher's original binding with titles stamped in gilt to front board and spine. Externally very smart with minor shelfwear and slight bumping to head and tail of spine. Spine has slightly faded. Inscribed by previous owner to front free endpaper "to dear Father from Pollie" dated 1889. Internally binding is loosening in places. Pages are bright and clean. 18204569Paris: Chez Martinet 1820. A lovely copy of this scarce cartoon. Unsigned but the initials LL. are printed to the lower right of the plate. We are unable to find a caricaturist with those initials Leander always signed his work. A gentleman is bowing to a couple approaching him. The lady tips her parasol. All are dressed as dandies. Attractive hand colouring. To the bottom left of the pate it is written in ink "Chez Martinet". A clean print with just a little marking / darkening to the sheet. Tipped onto a slightly larger piece of stiff card. A very nice item. Plate is 32cm x 24cm. The backing card is 35.5cm x 30cm. First edition. . Un bel exemplaire de cette caricature rare. Elle n'est pas signée mais les initiales LL. sont imprimées en bas à droite de la planche. Nous n'avons pas trouvé de caricaturiste portant ces initiales Leander signait toujours ses œuvres. Un monsieur s'incline devant un couple qui s'approche de lui. La dame incline son ombrelle. Tous sont habillés en dandys. Jolie mise en couleur à la main. En bas à gauche du pâté il est écrit à l'encre Chez Martinet. Impression propre avec juste un peu de marquage / assombrissement sur la feuille. Elle est collée sur un morceau de carte rigide un peu plus grand. Un très bel objet. La plaque mesure 32 cm x 24 cm. La carte de support mesure 355 cm x 30 cm. Chez Martinet unknown

Green cloth card covers blindstamped decorative borders on front and rear boards with gilt vignette of lady croquet player with title beneath in gilt. 56 pages including 7 pages of price lists for croquet games and equipment. The book is well illustrated with some full page engraved illustrations and smaller figures in the text portraying items of croquet equipment and diagrams etc. Engraved frontispiece showing participants at Eglinton Castle Croquet with the castle in the background. 4. A set of bound religious work on human nature religious mania and enthusiasm to which is bound an exploration into baptism and a sermon from Reverend E. B. Pusey. Natural History of Enthusiasm is the second edition published a year after the first and includes chapters such as; Enthusiasm Secular and Religious Enthusiasm in Devotion Enthusiasm of Prophetical Interpretation and Sketch of the Enthusiasm of the Ancient Church. Tracts for the Times explores the scriptural view of baptism as established by the consent of the ancient church and contrasted with the systems of modern schools. Reverend E. B. Pusey's sermon was performed in Oxford Cathedral on the fourth Sunday after Easter in 1843. In a half calf binding with marbled paper covered boards and gilt design to the spine. Externally a trifle rubbed with the front board held by the cords only. Internally firmly bound with bright pages and the odd spot which is heavier to the endpapers.
