Ingalls not accounted in pagination; i-iii iv-viii 1 2-314 315-320 with eight additional unpaginated leaves containing maps/photos. Then begins new pagination with supplement "Official History of the Operations of the First North Dakota Infantry U.S.V. in the Campaign in the Philippine Islands" by Phil H. Shortt editor of "Devils Lake News" appointed and assisted by Colonel W.C. Treumann et al; 1 2-64 65-66 blank. Publisher's preface table of contents xv chaps plus "The Voyage from San Francisco to Manila" and "Supplement" containing additional material e.g. Engineer Corps Rations Medical Department Noble Work of the Volunteer Lady Physicians etc; main text heavily illustrated with b&w photos tables and maps; First North Dakota section includes: 19 pp "The First North Dakota Infantry" text plus photos; roster lists/photos of officers/enlisted of 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Division. Condition notes: a heavily worn copy of this history with the rarely seen First North Dakota supplement personalized by a member of the 1st ND. Binding heavily worn and cocked with spine covering completely missing and cloth to boards worn through at several points. Hinges at endpapers fragile with separation apparent and some tears to paper. Title page loose/separated. Interior generally shows light tanning to coated pages and scattered smudging from handling but lacking any apparent pen/pencil notes. Pages generally intact but scattered closed tears exist. Blue pen spotting to ND supplement 62-63. Former owner has inscribed in pencil to first blank page: "Property/ of/ Henry Hanson/ Co. K 1st ND Ifty US Vol./ 1st Brigad 1 Div Pac Div/ 8 Army Corps". This is an apparent WWI era designation. Also included is an ephemeral blank "Tarjeta Postal" post card from "Filipnas 1898 y 1899" used as a bookmark. A handsome if roughly handled time capsule. FONDO DI MAGAZZINO: ALLO STATO DI NUOVO, NEL CELLOPHANE EDITORIALE L'esemplare che significativamente è stato prescelto per questa ristampa anastatica è conservato presso la Biblioteca Nazionale di Napoli “V. Emanuele III”. Questa copia rappresenta, insieme all'altro volume postillato segnato XIII H 58, uno dei più importanti e ricchi esemplari di “editio princeps” dell´opera del 1730 finora conosciuti, sui quali Vico sia intervenuto in prima persona. Si tratta di un esemplare a stampa ben conservato, rilegato in pergamena, di cm 16×9, di pp. XII-478-XII + 2 pp. numerate 479 e 480, che presenta la “Dipintura” prima della “Dedica a Clemente XII” e, in aggiunta all'“Indice”, le “Correzioni, Miglioramenti e Aggiunte” prime (interamente barrate dal Vico), la lettera a F.M. Spinelli e le “Correzioni” seconde (entrambe barrate dall'autore). La redazione del 1730 costituisce sicuramente la tappa più travagliata e complessa – sia dal punto di vista filologico che teoretico – del percorso vichiano. La qualità e la tecnica degli interventi di modifica e integrazione al testo mediante un vasto apparato di postille autografe rendono più convincente l'immagine di un Vico frequentatore abituale della tipografia, preoccupato di correggere gli errori più vistosi o di personalizzare – dal punto di vista non solo della forma, ma anche del contenuto – copie destinate a particolari personaggi. La corposità degli interventi vichiani è particolarmente singolare in questa copia prescelta per essere fornita in anastatica perché spesso compare un vero e proprio rimando a un apparato esterno, a volte mediante numeri di riferimento, facendo pensare – come è stato già detto – all'utilizzo di questa copia (come anche dell´esemplare XIII H 58) alla stregua di una correzione di bozza per una successiva e nuova stampa. La “Tavola cronologica”, ripiegata e posta alla fine del volume, documenta ulteriori correzioni manoscritte dell'autore.
