The team includes a pilot Roger Shumann a parachutist Laverne a mechanic Jiggs and Laverne's young son. They live a precarious hand-to-mouth existence constantly moving between air shows. An unnamed local newspaper reporter becomes fascinated by their disorderly and rootless lives. He gets deeply involved with the group attempting to understand their modern unconventional relationships and existence which eventually leads to tragic consequences.
