193126310New York: Grosset & Dunlap. Very Good. c.1932 1931. Reprint. Hardcover. no dust jacket good sound copy faint beverage-ring stain on front cover some deterioration to cloth causing intermittent exposure of rear board at fore-edge slight bumping to lower corners. Reprint of the Modern Library edition of Faulkner's novel notable for its inclusion of a new introduction by the author who rather self-deprecatingly calls the book "a cheap idea because it was deliberately conceived to make money." It certainly did its job: eventually a substantial chunk of that money came from the sale of the movie rights to Paramount. The studio had a bit of a struggle overcoming the Hays Office objections to its content particularly a graphic rape scene but they eventually wrought a movie out of it under the more prosaic title THE STORY OF TEMPLE DRAKE. .
