Signed flat by William Faulkner on publisher's limitation page limited edition #203/500. DL consignment. Shelved Case 6. William Falkner was born September 25 1897 in New Albany Mississippi. Faulkner had an early interest in stories fostered by tales of his home in Mississippi and his family. Faulkner's surname would change from Falkner to Faulkner in 1918 after a typesetting error put "Faulkner" on his first book of poetry a name he would use for the rest of his writing career. While many of his contemporaries came to live in Europe Faulkner instead chose to remain in the US moving to live in New Orleans in 1925. There Faulkner would write his first novel "Soldier's Pay" beginning a long career as one of America's most acclaimed novelists. In 1949 Faulkner would win the Nobel Prize in Literature. <br /> <br /> Faulkner's final novel was "The Reivers" published in 1962 just a month before his death in July of that year. It would go on to posthumously win the 1963 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction an award Faulkner had previously won for his novel "A Fable" marking him as one of only four authors to have won the award more than once. <br /> <br /> Though well-received upon release "The Reivers" has earned the scorn of many Faulkner scholars who dismiss it as a lesser work for it's more straightforward narration and lighthearted tone eschewing many of the traits that had made Faulkner so beloved. Despite these criticisms the novel remains well-liked by general audiences enough so to earn a movie adaptation of the same name in 1969 starring Steve McQueen. 1388969. Shelved Dupont Bookstore. Top edge black-stained.</p><p>The dustjacket in Brodart is fresh and bright with thinning and weakness at the front spine and fold-over chips and wear at spine and small tears and folds along front top edge. DJ edges show almost no wear.
