Hunting Stories by William Faulkner is a posthumously assembled collection that brings together several of the author’s short works centered on the culture rituals and symbolism of hunting in the American South. These stories—including “The Bear†“Race at Morning†and others—explore themes of tradition masculinity race and the human relationship with nature. Through dense evocative prose and layered narratives Faulkner uses the hunting motif not merely as sport but as a lens through which to examine the legacies of Southern history and moral inheritance. Set primarily in the fictional Yoknapatawpha County the stories often contrast the innocence and idealism of youth with the complexities of adult experience particularly in relation to honor memory and ecological awareness. Stapled mimeographed leaves printed rectos only. 28pp. Foxing and moderate wear on the first and detached last leaf very good with many corrections in pencil by Homer Fickett a consultant and director for the radio series. A play from a long-running radio and later television program sponsored by The Du Pont Company that ran from 1938 to 1953 and then briefly simultaneously as a television program consisting mostly of inspirational stories of historical events and figures meant to boast the image of the company. This particular play is about the development of the American whaling industry set on the Amagansett shore at Hampton Plantations on Long Island in the late 17th century. The radio play was directed by John Zoller and featured actor Louis Calhern. Although substantially similar this script differs in many details from the final recorded version. The radio version aired in 1951 and the same play made a reappearance on the television version in 1953 as Sam and the Whale. OCLC locates no copies of this script.
