Limited to 210 numbered copies Peich 48. Edited by James B. Meriwether. Title page hand lettered by Anita Karl. The stunning paste papers are by Claire Maziarczyk. This book is the beginning of a novel which William Faulkner tried repeatedly to write for a period of almost a decade and a half during the earlier part of his career--the novel about the Snopes family which he finally completed and published as The Hamletin 1940. Probably written in late 1926 the twenty-four page manuscript of Father Abrahamhere first published is apparently the earliest surviving attempt at this Snopes novel. The publication of this work was first conceived as a project by a group of students to raise funds for the Rare Book Collection at the New York Public Library and enable NYPL to purchase more fine press books. Once production was well underway the New York Times published an article on the project which resulted in the entire edition selling out in thirty-six hours. With a facsimile selection of Faulkner's manuscript. John DePol's wood engraving for the initial page of Faulkner's text is printed in tan blue and black and spans the facing pages. Title page printed with black and two shades of blue. Printed on laid paper. Spine ever-so-slightly faded with very little wear to spine rear cover and corners. Red Ozier Press unknown books
