The type is hand-set in 14 and 24 point Méridien designed by Adrian Frutiger in 1954 this foundry type released by Deberny & Peignot Paris 1957. Alice MaherÂ’s fragmented woodcut has been printed from scorched and brushed ash. The 150gsm Hodgkinson handmade paper was produced for the Stanbrook Abbey Press in 1974 and kept dry until now by John Purcell in London. The marbled paper design has been prepared by Jemma Lewis using Irish Carrageen Moss. The bindings were executed by Tom Pat Tommy and Patricia Duffy at their workshop in DublinÂ’s Five Lamps area. A limited edition of only 30 boxed sets featuring facsimiles of poetry broadsides produced in 1979 by Hirschman and the Union of Street Poets in San Francisco. Hirschman wrote many of the poems but he also translated the works of others such as Vladimir Mayakovsky. As he explains in a two-page introduction Hirschman artist Kristen Wetterhahn and poet Jack Mueller d. 2017 formed the Union of Street Poets in December 1978. The group made photocopies of poems in editions of 100 copies which they gave to fellow poets and artists as well as the general public. This edition reproduces 23 of the broadsides on multicolored paper most with striking art work by Wetterhahn.<br /><br />A typically beautiful production by Soheyl Dahi and his Sore Dove Press known for high-quality limited editions of works by poets and artists.<br /><br />OCLC lists seven institutional holdings: SUNY at Buffalo San Jose State Berkeley Colorado Yale Delaware and Texas. The poets are: Lawrence Ferlinghetti Jack Hirschman Ann Menebroker Belinda Subraman Father Luke Sreemanti Sengupta and Soheyl Dahi the founder of Sore Dove Press the publisher of this edition.</p><p>Ferlinghetti has signed his poem directly on the page containing his poem rather than on the limitation page. Hirschman and Dahi have signed their poems on the limitation page while the others have signed on slips of paper affixed to the limitation pages of their respective poems.
