Bound in full brown sprinkled sheepskin with a red leather spine label no label chips that is gilt stamped "Beren's Christmas Stories." The spine is elaborately gilt decorated. All gilt is still bright and shiny. SEE PHOTOS. As usual the front board is blindstamped "Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge" within an ornamental oval. Mounted inside the front cover is a printed list of the "Rules" governing the Society's lending library including the subscription fee of one penny per month. Pencilled on the list's upper corner is "Cruikshank 6/6." Below the list is an ink stamp "Russell 1826" -- presumably the name of the book's binder. Edges and hinges are rubbed. Front hinge is weak but holding. NO other owner's name or bookplate. Pages are foxed/tanned mostly light to moderate. First Edition presumed with "1823" imprinted at the foot of the spine and at the bottom of the title page. 4.25" wide by 7" tall. Cohn #71 notes that: "The greater part of the first edition and the whole of the subsequent issues were bought up by the S.P.C.K and then bound by them in whole sheepskin with cut and sprinkled edges and the Society's blind stamp upon the upper cover.".
