1902006152London: J.M. Dent & Co. 1902. 12mo size green clothbound hardcover with gilt titles and decorations on spine and front cover deckle edged pages. Author portrait on frontispiece. This is the second volume of poetry from Hugh McCulloch 1869 - 1902 published posthumously. McCulloch died in Florence Italy in 1902. These poems were written during his sojourn there. The poet is the grandson and namesake of United States Treasury Secretary Hugh McCulloch. There is a note on fep circa 1905: "It may be of interest to the reader that the author of these poems was a direct descendant of the illegible Samuel Man the first clergyman at Wrentham Massachusetts through his grandmother Susan Man who married Hugh McCulloch Secretary of the Treasury under United States Presidents Lincoln Johnson and Arthur." There appears to be the signature of the accessioning librarian underneath this note but we're unable to make out the name. It features works by in order of appearance: Art Beck Gael Turnbull Kurt Nimmo Bert Meyers Jake Leed Kent Taylor Alexis Rotella Naomi Shihab Nye Kell Robertson Ted Kooser and d.a. levy. <br /><br />Black Rabbit Press was an imprint of T.L. Tom Kryss who has contributed some illustrations although uncredited. Along with Kryss at least two other contributors were active in Cleveland's underground mimeo scene notably levy and Taylor. <br /><br />This chapbook is scarce. OCLC shows seven institutional holdings at SUNY at Buffalo Yale Delaware Cleveland State Kent State Virginia and National Library of Scotland. <br /><br />CONDITION: Some rubbing to wrappers a couple of minor stains to some pages creasing to pink tissue guards.
